Back from the 1930's, this kit was made for the Flying Aces Club "Erie Daily Times" event. With quick easy construction, this is a wonderful flying model. It meets the qualifications of all Junior Pilots contest rules, provided plans are followed.

This free flight rubber powered kit contains a full-size rolled Erie Daily Times Junior Pilots "Official Modelplane" contest plans designed by Alan Engstrom, laser cut balsa parts and hand-picked balsa strip wood, clear plastic for the windshield, TissueCal™ markings, FAI rubber motor, E-B propeller, EBM thrust bearing, wheels, landing gear wire, and Easy Built Lite tissue in a variety of bright colors. To build this model you will need a building board, hobby knife, fine sandpaper, and glue.

"Minor mods: Added a cross piece inside the fuselage to glue the landing gear wire to. Added soft balsa cap strips to the tail surfaces to give them a symmetrical airfoil. One piece stabilizer, and corresponding slot added to fuselage frame." - Rich Weber
Postscript: "I guess my Erie Daily Times is still floating somewhere over Northern Ohio. I launched it last Sunday at our CFFS monthly contest and it disappeared while going up and South at nearly the same rate. It was Very disappointing. This is only the second time I've flown it, and I was hoping to learn something from it. Instead, it flew right off the board, and then left me with nothing. I suspect that it has a homing device cleverly built into the balsa and that it is heading home to Alabama. Please let me know when it arrives." Very truly, Rich Weber

"...electric conversion of the Erie Daily Times. Modifications include 1. moved wing position from low wing to midwing. I raised the wing so I could mount the cells in the bottom of the fuselage below the wing. Now it glides well. 2. stiffened the stabilizer by building it with 3/32" square balsa. 3. powered by HiLine 4 motor with Union model reduction gear, used two 50 mah 1/3 AAA NCAD batteries to adjust the CG (center of gravity) which ended up over the trailing edge of the wing." - Van Smith
